Maurits Cornelis Escher is one of the most famous graphic artists and illustrators of all time. His ingenious and visionary creations have shaped the collective imagination of the twentieth century and of our own time. He was able to engage with the themes of the geometric and numerological universe (often anticipating the research of specialists themselves, or working in remarkable parallel with them), grappling with the concepts of space and infinity, and thus of time and eternity.
But Escher was also, and above all, a great artist, with a profound knowledge of art history and in constant contact with Italian and European cultural circles. Discovered relatively recently, Escher is loved not only by those who know art, but also by enthusiasts of mathematics, geometry, science, design, and graphic arts.
Through approximately one hundred works, this catalogue presents his entire artistic journey, from his early years and travels in Italy to the various artistic techniques he employed throughout his life, which made him a truly unique artist.
