What takes shape in Gradisca d’Isonzo is a sort of combinatory gallery of twentieth-century drawing: a fascinating visual fabric composed of works on paper from private collections, normally hidden from public view. It is therefore a precious opportunity to access a heritage often concealed — one that, in this setting, seems to emerge as if from a chamber of time.

Every collection, after all, is a multitemporal device: a transversal platform where disjointed temporalities, dissonant rhythms, and desires intertwine — desires often driven by sincere aesthetic impulses, yet also by an irreducible component of narcissism. And yet, it is precisely from this interplay of wills and visions that the history of art draws nourishment, just as the museum space — the place par excellence of aesthetic sharing and collective cultural memory — does.

From this perspective, the artwork that resurfaces from the undifferentiated flow of events takes on the form of a relic returned to the shore after a storm: a residual but eloquent testimony of a shipwreck of memory, ready to be reassembled, reread, and reinserted into a new interpretative horizon.

The group of works presented here, exhibited for the first time in a museum context, responds to a clear intent of unveiling and restitution. It fades from private enjoyment into the public sphere, transforming an individual — or exclusive — pleasure into a concrete act of generosity: a tangible offering of beauty, to be shared both sensorially and intellectually.
